Door of Faith Orphanage, Baja, Mexico: This orphanage supports over 100+ children south of the border. We plan
to make a trip to the orphanage sometime this summer. If you’d like to get involved, please let us know.
Friends of La Jolla Shores: This local group has spearheaded and completed two great projects at the south end of our
beach – and if you haven’t already, walk down there and check out the MAP project and the children’s playground by the
South comfort station. This year, we supported the completion and installation of J.J. the Whale life-sized bronze sculpture at
the north end of the new playground. J.J.’s amazing story, as told by her Trainers and Veterinarian, will be etched on the seat
wall, surrounding the Children’s Playground, for all to enjoy - to be completed in the fall of 2010. Stay tuned!
Rell Sunn Educational Fund: This non profit educates the public about sportsmanship and the environment, combats
juvenile delinquency, and provides support to battle breast cancer. Inspired by the famous Hawaiian surfer and “Queen of
Makaha” Rell Sunn, the foundation supports the Annual Rell Sunn Menehune Surf Contest for hundreds of children in Hawaii.
They also donate funds to the cancer wing at the Kapiolani Hospital on the island of Oahu in Rell Sunn’s name. Her daughter
Jan Sunn-Carreira, and her beautiful children bring their aloha spirit to our surf contest every year and we are proud to be
donating $5 for every girl and novice in our contest to the Foundation.
SurfAid International: The mission of SurfAid International, a non-profit humanitarian aid organization, is to improve the
health of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing.
San Diego Coastkeeper protects the region’s bays, beaches, watersheds and ocean for the people and wildlife that
depend on them. They balance community outreach, education, and advocacy to promote stewardship of clean water and a
healthy coastal ecosystem.
Sundt Memorial Foundaton: We’re proud to welcome and honor local this local foundation, headquartered in La Jolla,
and founded by local surfer Jon Sundt. Their mission is to influence the hearts and minds of kids by inspiring them to live
their natural high and reject drugs. They produce and distribute Natural High DVDs for FREE, to every middle school, public and
private, throughout the United States. The DVDs are currently being used in every state in the country. Our 2010 contestants
received the Natural High DVDs in their goodie bags and received a special post event "challenge" - see details on our home
page.

Charitable Outreach
Every year LJ Shores Surfing Association members nominate and elect worthy causes to receive our
club funds. We’re proud of this tradition, and over the past 3 years, we have given over $12,000 to
non profit charities with the event proceeds from our annual menehune surf contest and gathering of
the crew for a good cause...Here are the 'good causes' we supported in 2009-10:
